Alkali-Halide Chemiluminescence: Studies on the Fluctuation Bands from some Alkali (Li, Na, K)-Halogen (CI, Br, I)-Reactions
نویسنده
چکیده
Molecular chemiluminescence spectra from selected alkali-halogen reactions are presented using a beam-gas arrangement operating with pressures between 10 -1 mtorr (single collision conditions) up to 10 mtorr in the reaction zone. Spectra are presented for the chemiluminescent reactions M2 + X 2 > M X * + MX, where M2 = K 2 , Na2 and X 2 = C12, Br2 ,12 . The MX* emitter is identified by comparison with previous absorption and emission studies of these molecules. The sodium reaction with I2 as well as all lithium reactions with different halogens (CI2, Br2,12) do not yield appreciable molecular emission. The differences in molecular chemiluminescence intensities among this type of reactions can be understood in terms of the Landau-Zener formalism for an electron jump and turn out to be consistent with the results from measurements on absorption, emission and dissociation.

Alkali and Halogen Chemistry in Volcanic Gases on Io
We use chemical equilibrium calculations to model the speciation of alkalis and halogens in volcanic gases emitted on Io. The calculations cover wide temperature (500-2000 K) and pressure (10 to 10 bars) ranges, which overlap the nominal conditions at Pele (T = 1760 K, P = 0.01 bars). About 230 compounds of 11 elements (O, S, Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, F, Cl, Br, I) are considered. The elemental abunda...
متن کاملF-CENTER ELECTRON QUANTIZATION IN ALKALI HALIDE CRYSTALS Background Alkali halides and alkaline earth halides are strongly ionic compounds
Alkali halides and alkaline earth halides are strongly ionic compounds that solidify as crystals. The name for the alkali elements (Li, Na, K, Rb and Cs) comes from the Arabic word alqili (ashes of the salt-wort plant that was once used as a source of sodium and potassium for making glass from sand). The name for the halogen elements (F, Cl, Br, I—and the rare radioactive element astatine) come...
متن کاملChemiluminescent spectra of alkali-halogen reactions
Using a beam-gas arrangement, we have obtained the chemiluminescence spectra of alkali-halogen reactions at pressures less than I mtorr. The spectra in general are characterized by a broad molecular feature on which are superimposed sharp atomic alkali transitions. Under higher resolution (better than 5 A) the molecular feature consists of a single progression of regularly spaced peaks extendin...
متن کاملAlkali metal-sulfur dioxide complexes stabilized by halogenated closo-dodecaborate anions.
The alkali metal salts (M = Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs) of the perchlorinated closo-dodecaborate [B(12)Cl(12)](2-) were prepared by reaction of [NEt(3)H](2)[B(12)Cl(12)] with the corresponding alkali metal hydroxide. Crystallization of M(2)[B(12)Cl(12)] from liquid sulfur dioxide gave the sulfur dioxide complexes [Li(2)(SO(2))(8)][B(12)Cl(12)], Na(2)[B(12)Cl(12)].4SO(2), K(2)[B(12)Cl(12)].8SO(2), Rb(2)[...
متن کامل"Textbook" adsorption at "nontextbook" adsorption sites: halogen atoms on alkali halide surfaces.
Density-functional theory and second order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory calculations indicate that halogen atoms bond preferentially to halide substrate atoms on a series of alkali halide surfaces, rather than to the alkali atoms as might be anticipated. An analysis of the electronic structures in each system reveals that this novel adsorption mode is stabilized by the formation of textbo...
